The Seva Story

In Chennai women laid off from work and out of work women from Self help Groups were brought together to make high quality washable, reusable masks that were then sent across the SSM centres in the country.

These masks were distributed in shelters for the homeless, among pavement dwellers, out of work daily wagers and other such communities who had no access to masks otherwise.

In Hyderabad too, masks were sourced from women making them in a self-help centre and distributed to police personnel as well as to indigent communities along with the distribution of food.

In Madanapalle, mask making was a continuous effort during COVID and this engaged women from the local tribal Lambani community.

In nearly all the SSM centres across the country, washable, reusable masks were distributed with food to indigent communities, frontline workers and police personnel who requested them.

With the lockdown, flower growers in Chennai were left with no markets in which to sell their produce.

Our volunteers identified large buyers and other downstream applications which benefitted the flower growers by providing market linkages.
