Gaushalas
Vrindavan’s echoes in the South
Sri M’s vision of sustainable living became a reality with the establishment of two gaushalas, one at the Madanapalle Ashram and the other at The Sacred Grove in Chowdepalle, Andhra Pradesh.
The Satsang Gaushala, Madanapalle Ashram
The Satsang Gaushala at the Madanapalle Ashram was carved out of Sri M’s personal garden in September 2019 to create a loving home for Gir and Sahiwal cows. Surrounded by bilva trees and flowering bushes, with scenes from Indian epics etched on the compound walls, this beautiful abode abounds with the lowing of little calves and their mothers as the gentle notes of the flute waft through.
Gaushala Kshetra at The Sacred Grove
The Gaushala Kshetra, a tranquil abode within The Sacred Grove, is Vrindavan incarnate in Chowdepalle. Canopied by kadamba trees and pulsing with the notes of the flute, the gaushala is home to Gir, Sahiwal, and Rathi cows. Here, the cycle of life unfurls in all its innocence, as it were, with newborn calves up on their feet within their first hour.
- Promotes eco-friendly farming practices through calf adoption: Upholds Go-Palan (care and nourishment of cows) by placing year-old calves with farmers, encouraging indigenous breed preservation and sustainable agriculture.
- Revives the traditional process of cold-pressed oil extraction for a healthier lifestyle.
- Supports sustainable agriculture through tie-ups with government bodies and neighbouring villages to train adopted calves for ploughing, reducing reliance on machinery and promoting eco-friendly farming methods.
